Welcome home to Westchester located in Cook County. The village of Westchester was first occupied by German farmers dating back over 150 years to the mid 19th century. In the 1920's Samuel Insull a British born American business magnate purchased the 2200 acres of farmland with plans to recreate a English style town. Westchester incorporated in 1926. While the town and majority of streets are of English origin little remains of the 150 year old farming community. Samuel's plans were thwarted by the Great Depression as his vast Midwest holding company collapsed. Westchester's population began to boom in the 1950's with the building and completion of nearby expressway's.
